Victoria Glendinning: Love's Civil War: Elizabeth Bowen and Charles Ritchie: Letters and Diaries 1941-1973
I've been waiting for this book to come out for the last couple of years, as I knew she was editing it, and I was beside myself with excitement when I saw it in the bookshop on Saturday. It is fascinating, wonderful and beautiful. The story of the clandestine relationship between Elizabeth Bowen (my favourite writer) and her true love, Charles Ritchie, which lasted for more than thirty years until the death of Bowen in 1973.

  • Jane Brocket: The Gentle Art of Domesticity

Jane Brocket: The Gentle Art of Domesticity
This is a beautiful book written by the creator of the gorgeous Yarnstorm blog. Jane writes about sewing, knitting, cakes, gardening....in fact everything that she loves about home-based love-filled crafts. Above all, this book is uplifting because she makes no apologies for being an intelligent and educated woman who also happens to like making jam tarts, knitting jumpers and spending time with her children. Every page of this book makes me feel happy!

  • Jekka McVicar: Jekka's Complete Herb Book: In Association with the RHS

Jekka McVicar: Jekka's Complete Herb Book: In Association with the RHS
This is a lovely book. You can read it cover to cover or just dip in and out when you like. This books is more than a directory of herbs, it includes everything you could ever need to know about your our edible plants - recipes, medicinal use, how to grow them, the history of herbs - this is a fascinating book which shows you just how versatile and wide-ranging herbs are.
